A statement has been issued by organisers of Friday's Ulster Hall rally

Friday night past (06/12/19) saw upwards of 1000 loyalists attending a “Rally for the Union” demonstration of Loyalist solidarity and commitment to reject the Prime Minister's proposed 'Betrayal Act'. .

The event was inspired by and also reflective of the various Unionist meetings that have been taking place across Northern Ireland since October.

The purpose of the event was to motivate Loyalists to vote Unionist in the upcoming General Election in the hope of returning a maximum number of Unionist MP’s to Westminster - to represent Loyalist rejection of the Betrayal Act.

The event also sought to politicise and encourage a younger and more diverse generation of Unionists to speak out in defence of Unionist views and values, in the face of our Prime Minister's betrayal with his intention of imposing a sea border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom, thus placing us in what would be tantamount to an economic United Ireland.

The event included musical performances by a singer and Mourne Young Defenders Flute Band, along with pipers and Lambeg drummers.

Retired Parachute Regiment soldier John (67) called on the Unionist family to come together in the face of the dangers he saw from the Prime Minister's Betrayal Act- and also had a message for the Taoiseach. "My message to Leo Varadkar is - do one. Stay out of the internal affairs of the United Kingdom.”

Emma (38) , a Queens University Student, rallied for more young people to get involved in politics. She said, "there has never been a more important time that you use your vote! We must take a strong and united voice back to Westminster to fight this bill."

Community Worker Stacey (29) recalled the leadership displayed by loyalist women throughout history and made clear that today would be no different. Stacey impressed that "For generations the women of Ulster have been at the forefront of the fight to not only retain our constitutional position as equal partners within the United Kingdom, but also to protect our unique cultural and traditional expressions which signify, more than anything, our British identity"

Belfast Teacher Moore (27) spoke about the Prime Ministers Betrayal. He said, “The Prime Ministers deal is a disaster for Northern Ireland’s constitutional position. We have been placed upon the altar: a sacrifice to deliver Brexit, an offering to the Irish Republic, and a white flag to the threat of violent Republicanism. We must and shall resist it.”

There were also historical dramatisations by Joel (18) (Robert Quigg VC),
Elise (16) (Lady Londonderry),
Blane (30) (Lord Carson)
John (32) (Private Graham)

During the second half of the event we heard messages of support from representatives of the OO and ABOD in Scotland.

Jim Allistair and Nigel Dodds also gave their perspectives on the current political crisis.

We invited the media group Forgotten Voices to film the event. Parts of the speeches and performances shall be published today and tomorrow on social media platforms.

The overwhelming message of the evening was unambiguous. This generation of Loyalists will not be the generation to fail Ulster.

We will not tolerate an Economic United Ireland. We will not accept a border in the Irish Sea. We will vote Unionist on the 12th December. We will resist the Betrayal Act.
