Three Rivers going on lockdown — Barrett will be incommunicado
A message from our favorite imprisoned award-winning journalist:
"We're apparently going to be on lockdown tomorrow (Friday 11/4) and possibly beyond due to an incident this evening outside our unit where a cop and an inmate got into a verbal dispute, the cop taunted him, insulted his mother, and dared him to hit him, and the inmate did so. Last time something like this happened, when another cop had disrespected an inmate (both times a Mexican national; there's some deep animosity between Texas-born Hispanics and Mexicans), forcing him to walk back to his housing unit barefoot, and some others spoke up against this, the warden had us locked down for six days without showers or hot meals contrary to policy, so there's no telling what will happen this time. Since the inmate in question and one who egged him on were taken to the hole and everything immediately went back to normal there's no legitimate reason for a thousand people to have their lives disrupted due to latest instance of unprofessional behavior by staff, but that's what's going to happen.
It's possible we'll be back out Saturday but I wouldn't put money on it."
