Response to Twit Longer : Why 1D Fans r interested in the fate of Larry 1D?

I feel that what you wrote is not realistic, based on what we are seeing from One Direction themselves.

1DPR has a multimillion budget that has been used to spread consistent messages for four years. 1DPR is openly & fiercely supported by the group and everyone associated with them. The support for the 1DPR continues daily unfettered. Even yesterday, support of official narratives strongly undermined the few photos that attempted to give an alternative viewpoint.

Modest made Larry into a weapon of control of 1D not the fans. I see operant conditioning being applied. Larry=bad things happen to 1D and it is the fans fault when they talk about Larry not Modest who issues the punishment. The fans want Larry and are happy about it. Modest punishes Larry and made it bad but told 1D it is the fans fault.

The fandom does need some alternate storylines but currently there are none being provided by the 1D brand. As to fans providing feedback, I see feedback being provided constantly and it goes unfulfilled. One Direction is only doing what it wants to do and what the fans want does not seem to matter.

Many 1D fans are prepubescent as you said. Just as fans are encouraged to scream as loud as they can at concerts, they see Twitter trends as supporting 1D.

While it would be wonderful to see L&H and the OTP-5 back as the new normal and I think it should be, it is highly doubtful that fans will just silently be happy for them when they do it.

The only recurring narratives provided by 1DPR are:
1. Harry Styles as a standalone brand preparing for his solo career
2. Eleanor Calder girlfriend of boybander Louis (written in all media since late 2011)
3. Zerrie/Little Mix cross-promo
4. Liam goes to Funky Buddha often and he too has a girlfriend
5. 1D is no longer a band of brothers because at 20/21/22 they have outgrown friendships & professionalism. So, they are fighting and cannot wait to breakup.
6. Niall is Irish.*** The winner!!!

Which narrative should 1D fans invest in?

I honestly do think that fans try to ignore stunts or parades however 1DPR always adds that one element of ridiculousness that makes it hard to keep your mouth shut. 1DPR loves nasty stunts & negative PR. They are effective in provoking responses even if you are trying not to react based on the sheer horror of what you are observing.

Not everything is down to the fans. Fans buy tickets to concerts and buy merchandise but we don’t make them do the stunts, come up with nasty PR narratives, do parades to be papped with girlfriends, etc… that is down to their management company and the agreement they made with them in their contracts. If they agree to do the stuff management tells them to do, fans are not at fault. If they are required by their job to be lying liars who lie in order to make their money, how is it that fans are to blame?

Fans do not understand why 1D are treated so poorly by their own team. And why are fans being asked to mutely observe what is happening as if it is OK. It is not OK to us that 1D seems to be treated badly & made to do shameful stunts.

Why are fans are being asked to be silent if they want to see L&H talk to each other and the OTP-5 back? Why cannot those attributes of the group be celebrated? Fans would celebrate seeing the 1D they fell in love with. A return of the five weirdo’s on the stairs that made them smile and laugh aloud.

Fans were genuinely alarmed people to be told that Louis and Harry had grown apart and were no longer friends. Based on the initial introduction to the group to present, L&H and the OTP-5 is 1D. It was when they were all separated and fans started getting stories about Manwhore Harry, cheater Zayn, Crotch-baring Liam, and “interested in vagina over 1D” Louis that things just did not compute for many people. Those are the stories that did not make sense. Larry became “Bullshit” when Modest decided to shovel bullshit. That is also when fans started fighting & the fandom stopped being a family and starting being Crazy Mofos.

Kool-Aid drinking fans do not want to think that 1D lie to them so anything that 1D says whether in print, through Twitter, etc… is consider to be the truth until they say different. No matter what evidence is given to the contrary. If changes are made, maybe in the beginning fans will have over the top reactions; however once fans again become accustomed to back to basics, things will settle down. It is now 2014, and 1D is poised to lead the generation. It is up to the boys how far they go, but I think talking to each other and enjoying celebrity together and as a team is certainly reasonable.

Controlling the ten year olds is practically impossible, especially since no one from One Direction is leading the fandom. The fandom is the Wild Wild West. 1D can develop banter about the OTP-5 and L & H. Remember Niall once said, “Larry Stylinson is a friend of ours.” Surely, their highly paid PR team or the interns can handle something as basic as a friendship and maybe a hint of more among bandmates. Louis and the rest of 1D should go to the events with Harry. Harry deserves an entourage of people his own age and his current bandmates are perfect for that role, regardless of whatever Harry may have planned for life after One Direction. No one in young Hollywood goes out alone. The pics of Louis arriving at LAX earlier this year with the headband and Liam with him as bandmates and writing partners were flawless.

Regarding the WWA shows. Fans reports have been mixed, except for the last few weeks before the break things seemed to more consistently good and report from fans that had gone to multiple shows were that Turin (Wet One Direction), Madrid (Louis with glasses) and Portugal (High Energy performances including support acts) were especially good. Note: Of course, fans should try not to directly hit the 1D boys/men with the products they bring to shows for them. Fans notice when the speeches are the same every night and that every city is the loudest or the best so even trying on the silly stuff fans throw at them or reading the posters does add texture and difference to each show. Fans have memorized what little choreography there is during the shows. If something is omitted, fans notice.

When Harry was sick and could not sing, Why didn’t Louis sing lead on Rock Me/SOML? Giving the fandom those different looks would have been an excellent opportunity to freshen things up. Niall and Liam did a great job but the fandom would kill for a long Louis solo and those songs seem very doable for him. Louis nailed Rock Me when he substituted for Harry last year. I am convinced that if they featured Louis’ unique voice in the proper single that he could get them a number one hit.

The charities stuff is good but I want follow-up too. Did Louis send books to the boy he met in Ghana? We saw Niall meet the Queen as a cultural ambassador, what is Zayn doing as a cultural ambassador?

I would like 1D to start doing more active crowd/scream management during the shows. Let the crowd know when it is OK to scream and when not to scream. Also, maybe fans should be asked not to scream out to 1D during the quieter songs. Tell the crowd what and when to sing & have moments when 1D wants to sing for them. If Liam and Zayn are making vocal changes in songs, I would love to hear them but often all you can hear at shows is screams.
I believe in the past 1DHQ asked fans about songs they want to hear 1D perform but I do not remember the Twitter hashtag, nothing has come of it so far. Fans suggested the types of music they wanted 1D to perform, including Christmas songs.

The update accounts could be made obsolete easily by 1D discrediting them and 1DHQ doing a better job at giving updates about the daily schedule. If it is a day off have 1DHQ tell the fandom, it is a day off which means, please give the boys/men space, privacy, etc… do not stalk, do not tweet location, etc…. However, not everyone is on Twitter so that needs to be taken into account if people happen to be where one of 1D turns up and dealt with accordingly. If 1D want more privacy, start telling the fans that and repeat often. Use security team to repeat. Do not agree to pictures/autographs with violators of the rules. The fandom got the idea it was OK to stalk and mob because it was not shutdown when it first started because Modest likely felt it played into the persona of the group becoming the next Beatles, again it is not all the fans fault. If they see others meeting their idols that way, they think that is what they have to do if they want to get to meet them too.

I am not sure about a fan club because it is unclear that the group plans to be around past 2015.

If fans are to focus their discussions solely on the craft of performance, and techniques used such as changes in rhythm, banter, and light shows to change the atmosphere, etc... Then each performance cannot be 100% scripted. In addition, there actually has to be banter worth talking about. There are not that many lighting changes in the sense that they do not put a spotlight on Zayn when he sings his high note in You and I. They just put the lighting up and down and change colors with smoke and special effects. Of course, there are fireworks, balloons and streamers.

I would like 1D to talk about the tour screens, who did the artwork? Why don’t we have a choreographed dance sequence for Better for Words? They could remix it to make it longer.
During UAN we used to get DJ Malik and DJ Tommo, will we ever see them again? What about DJ Payne?

Quiet the audience and start doing special performances such as an acoustic song. Play some instruments no matter how badly. It is about the effort/growth not the execution, DJ, dance, etc… Those videos get the 1D talents out to other audiences. We saw Harry juggle but nothing from the others.

Regarding the end of 1D. I would like to hear 1D to talk candidly about being performers/singers. I don’t know what the plan are or what Harry’s solo commitments are but if the group does plan to try for a second act, it would be cool for them to put out one video per month during the hiatus featuring anything One Direction: Zayn driving lessons, Louis reading the phone book, Zayn painting, writing or recording music, could be a formal hosted type thing, or a singing session. I would love to see them have a karaoke party, cooking with Niall and Harry, a mini 1D day etc… Its pie in the sky but it would also be a good time even without Harry for the rest of 1D to hit as many talk and radio shows as humanly possible so that they become regulars on certain shows. Louis must guest host with Greg James or at least call into the show on a regular basis.

Can Louis have a beer with Dave Grohl, if he plans to continue to be a player in the music business after One Direction’s contract ends with Modest. One Direction learned the business under Modest, which does not believe in authenticity or being real. So as a default, it’s likely that hiding and doing things the Modest way is what they have become accustomed to. It is not a good way to proceed in the future. Dave Grohl is one of the few musicians that has been lucky enough for most of his career to do things the way his group wanted to do them. He runs his current groups independently and is the man in charge. He works with the labels but is not controlled by them.

Maybe the guys can go back to doing a little more with the way they dress beyond award shows. Although I will not be the one to end the jeggings trend.

In summary, I think fans would love to see L &H and the OTP-5 back as the new normal. I think it should be, however it is highly doubtful that fans will just silently be happy for them when they do it. 1D has to lead the change and not fear the reaction. Everything new become old after a while.
