Fan-fiction practice, to @Cret92's prompt. Short story of random NPC. Annie Devine, boot vendor in Tumbleweed. Written on the spot; unedited.

Annie pushed the shipping cart to the top of the cliff, setting it upright and walking to the edge herself. She hadn't realized how brilliant Cool Ranch sunrises were until then, when all the traveling was over with. The nasty nip of dawn receded as the sun rose, casting rays of pale yellow light into windows. Annie could see the herded buffaloons waking, bumping into one another and snorting as if in greeting. At last, the seemingly endless sounds of construction had been traded in for store supplying, and the creaking of worn-down ships was replaced by wheelbarrows toting goods. Annie had doubted that she'd make it to see this day in her lifetime, and the journey was tough indeed.
"It's a new life, Annie," she assured herself, "A new frontier. Imagine all the critters!" Turning as to make sure no one was listening in, she whispered the truth, "And think of all the money, too! The Devine Boot Company with a new branch in the new frontier...so...exciting." Turning the cart around, Annie headed back to her new, paint-reeking shop, setting the boxes down. With a new day came new profits, and there wasn't any time to waste.

I tend to struggle with single-character scenes, especially those with dialogue. This prompt truly tested me. Thanks!
