Fan-fiction practice, to @Tallahasee79's prompt. Clockwork + Undead, something like Frankenstein's monster. Written on the spot, unedited.

Rachel glanced at her plans again, the stone-walled room candle-lit as the day grew darker. Unraveled over tables and pinned to walls were blueprints and near-illegible manuscripts, all age-affected and shedding dust as the air from the skyway blew in. Just as she had theorized, the abandoned lighthouse just off of Flotsam worked brilliantly well as a laboratory, even if she didn't have a working front door. Working side-by-side a short distance off were two of Rachel's accomplices - Old Scratch, having walked from the jungle; and Gracie Conrad - leaning over a stone table built at an angle. Bones met clockwork parts, sealed by 'only the highest mojo', as Old Scratch said repeatedly as he waved his hands over the monstrosity of Rachel's.
"Captain," Gracie called, "You don't suppose that this...thing, whatever it is, will turn against us, do you?" Rachel turned back.
"Well," she said uneasily, "Due to the mojo, it likely won't."
"Lies," Scratch retorted, "Privateer girl know nothing about Hoodoo. Of course half tinker toy will be rebellious." Rachel swallowed hard.
"Nothing we can't handle. Right, guys?" Neither skeleton nor engineer responded.
